School classes

Making opera and ballet accessible to young people - creatively, at eye level and with room for individual approaches. Arousing curiosity, encouraging enthusiasm and creating spaces in which pupils can actively experience music theater, dance and the repertoire of the Vienna State Opera and NEST - in the auditorium as well as in the classroom.

In addition to attending a performance, we also offer participation in a dress or stage rehearsal as well as introductions to works and educational theater workshops. In these workshops, pupils engage with music, plot or dance aesthetics in a variety of ways - through scenic play, making music together and improvisation. In doing so, we ask the question: What does this have to do with you and me? How can we build bridges to our own world? This creates personal and lasting perspectives on opera and ballet.

Performances

All school performances are marked as school performances in the performance schedule.

With the exception of specially marked evening performances, school performances begin at 10.30 am. To ensure smooth admission, please arrive at least half an hour before the performance begins.

Workshops

In preparatory or follow-up music theater and dance education workshops, students playfully explore the plot, themes, music, staging language or dance aesthetics of a production. By making music, improvising and acting together, they get to know the special features of the respective work in greater depth and build their own bridges to their own world.

Workshops are offered for the following productions at NEST:

  • Strauss 2225: Dances for the Future
  • Peter and the Wolf
  • Musketeers!

The workshops can be flexibly adapted to the level of knowledge of the school class in consultation with the teacher.

Duration min. 60 to max. 90 minutes Location at NEST or at your school Cost free of charge in combination with a performance visit

Registration at outreach@wiener-staatsoper

Events for teachers

As the exchange with teachers and educators is important to us, we offer regular events for this purpose: Visits to performances or rehearsals, music theater pedagogical workshops and informative exchanges are all part of the program. The aim is to work together to find ways in which music theater and dance can be taught in a lively and sustainable way in a school context.
